When you speak of "getting into the artist zone" I was wondering if that might be similar to the notion of nonliterality in play? That is, when engaged in play a child/adult's internal reality takes precedence over external reality so that "regular" meanings of objects or situations are ignored or suspended and newly created meanings are substituted.
